If you are on the hunt for a new bicycle and don’t realize what it is you need, than you are setting out for an exciting venture. Bicycles are utilized around by world by millions (if not billions) of people. Some people use their bicycles for practical reasons, while many others use them for pure enjoyment or as a means to stay in shape.

Establish What You Need

The bicycling industry is big business and they have introduced many novelties over the years. Because of this, it really is important to identify exactly what you need before you spend money on something.

Have you ever wanted a mountain bike? This is a great way to start your cycling off in the right direction. When you look at the history of bicycling, mountain bikes are not that new. Bikes with these characteristics are much more rugged than your typical models.

Type of Tire

Wider tires, with much more tread, along with beefier frames, is what you will find. These bikes are made for off-road riding. That is why the tread is so thick. These bikes are definitely not designed for speed because of the way they are built so keep that in mind. One benefit to using these, however, is that they are extremely comfortable to ride because of what they’re made for.

Test Drive First

Test driving a bike, just like test driving a car, is something that can help you determine which bike you really want. To make sure the bike is a great fit for you and what you want to do with it, if you can find any way, test drive a bike to see if it works for you. If you can borrow a bike from a friend, and test drive it for a few days, you can get one if you like riding it.

Test driving a bike is possible if you rent one – some bike shops will allow you to do this. This is probably your best option. You may find that you don’t like it at all, but at least you will know before buying one. You are trying to avoid getting a bike you don’t want. This is something that may happen if you don’t try it out first.

Consider Materials Used

Anytime you have a sport and industry such as cycling, with bicycles, you will get the opinions of millions of people on certain subjects. The highest quality bicycle frame material is a really hot subject currently and possibly for awhile yet. Clearly, this is an area where you love one thing or the other, and then people try to convince others about their positions. Is the best frame material steel or aluminum and why, that is the question and debate. Of course steel is a great material for a lot of things, but has a few bad traits. Steel frames are very popular and bikers swear by this material. Because there are no statistics that will enforce some of these views; you should base your decision on experience.

Just like with cars, there are hybrid bicycles which could be an option if your tastes are outside the norm. Although mountain bikes and touring bikes are much more popular, you could give them a shot. Plus you can always find a cycle that is flexible and be used for both, but they will still be for mainly mountain biking.
