Trekking is one of the most exhilarating outdoor sports. Ranging from long, extraneous walks to climbing mountains, all come under trekking. It may sound simple but, it is not meant to be taken lightly and is not for novices. As a beginner, one must take several factors into consideration before setting their foot outside. Here is a comprehensive list for the beginners:
The Place: As a beginner, one should start off with an easy trek. Making good use of the internet, one should look and sign up for an easy trekking trip which would accommodate them into the sport and not scare them off.
Physical Ailments: One should be sure of their health and be aware that the sport doesn’t harm their health in any way. Trekking is an extreme sport and is not meant for the weak-hearted.
The Clothes: Wearing too much, rather than too little is always the safest way to play this game. At any moment it would be preferred to take off a layer than go through the torment of freezing to death. Wool or fleece is always the preferred material while on a trek while cotton should be avoided at all costs. A headgear is always a must as it protects against the sun and the rain.
The Backpack: The backpack is the ultimate resort for the trekker. All major factors should be taken into consideration before and while packing the bag. An ideal backpack would have sunglasses, sleeping bag, first aid kit, a knife, insect repellant, a flashlight, lip-balm, bear-spray and a watch on the top of their list.
Food Supplies: As a beginner, it is imperative to understand that it is better to have a surplus of food and water than a shortage. Trekking requires a lot of energy and having lightweight heavy energy providing food is a necessity while on the trip. Water is furthermore important as the chances of getting dehydrated runs high while performing any sort of adventure sport.
Research and Schedule: A proper research should be conducted about the place one is about to visit. It would provide the trekker with an idea as to what he should be expecting in case of the climate and what he/she should be carrying. Following a proper schedule is imperative on trips as one doesn’t ever wish to be left stranded amidst the forest in the middle of the night.
Sunscreen: Not only does it keep the skin protected from unwanted tanning, applying sunscreen protects the skin from the UV rays of the sun. It is considered important because the trekker would be exposed to the sun for long hours of the day.
Budget: It is important that the trekker select a package in accordance to their budget which is worth the deal as well.
Accessories: Some of the lesser important things to carry that might just slip off of the trekker’s mind are the accessories. A camera, binoculars and umbrella re some such products.
Limitations: An important factor is that the trekker be aware of his/her limitations. When feeling nauseous or uncomfortable, tell the companions, ask for help. It is always better for everyone to deal with their fatigue while it can be helped.
