Another important point is you should not depend completely on the contractor for having all the knowledge. One thing you should know is that homeowners are not used to doing all the important background work.
Roof Replacement
Basically, there are only two reasons for a roof replacement – it’s old and damaged, or they want to put the house on the market. That’s fine if it makes good economic sense, or the cost/benefit ratio is good and it’s worth doing, but the flip side of this is to find out what the surrounding selling prices are for homes. Talk to your realtor, or do your own research to find out what kind of activity has been going on in your neighborhood. Getting a Contractor
So then your very first step that’s the easiest is doing online research, and in this case, it’s how to choose a good roofing contractor. Find out all the relevant state offices that have information you can use to confirm and/or verify your contractor is doing things right, etc. A lot of times you can prevent problems merely by knowing which questions to ask of the contractor as well as pertinent local and state offices that oversee these activities.
Insulation
Is your home insulated in the attic or space just under the roof? It’s quite possible you’ve been living there a long time and have never taken notice of this. The whole point for doing this is to get it done if need be during the installation of your new roof. The way this is done is to install either fiberglass insulation or the kind that is a foam and sprays into place. Then you can just nail plywood into place if you don’t want to get real fancy about it.
With getting a new roof, you want to have the most qualified roof contractors doing the work. This is a no-brainer, but you need to know how to find the best contractors. If you get this wrong, then all kinds of unsavory things can go wrong.
